Employment Directions Network Services

This is a free service open to all age groups and community members to give free assistance in all employment and training enquiries. The service is funded by the State Government’s Department of Education and Training. Click here to download Employment Directions Network Services PDF.

  • Job search and employability skill development
    • All clients can get assistance through our various services that are aimed at supporting and teaching the skills required for job search. We give advice on; Resumes, Selection Criteria, Application Letters, Interview Techniques and Starting a Small Business. We also run basic computer and internet classes that enable clients to effectively access job search websites.
  • Career Development and Guidance
    • We can assist clients to select and develop careers by presenting various pathway options to obtain employment in their chosen careers. Career Development Counselling is provided in one-on-one interviews.
  • Work Experience Insurance
    • We can supply work experience insurance coverage free of any fees to all clients to assist them with obtaining experience, information and contacts within an industry.
  • Parents as Career Partners
    • Parents as Career Partners is a program that will help Parents become career "allies" with their children and help them plan their future careers. It will give parents and children:
      • Vital information regarding post schooling options and a range of activities to help parents become career allies with their children.
      • The skills to help their children explore their future career options.
      • The workshops are run by trained staff from the Employment Directions Network (EDN) and can be delivered to suit your needs.

  • School Leaver Program (SLP)
    • Extra Edge Community Services can deliver workshops covering employment or career pathway development issues. We are happy to tailor various workshops to any school specific requests or deliver the workshops listed below.
      • Resumes, Selection Criteria and Application Letters relevant to today’s employment market.
      • Arrange career development and career guidance sessions.
      • Interview techniques.
      • Apprenticeship and traineeship school workshops.
      • School to University workshops.

  • Profit from Experience Program (Mature Age Program over 40)
    • For those who are currently underemployed or who are looking at returning to employment there is a program called Profit from Experience which can help mature age people (+40 years or Indigenous +35) to assist in employment related training or Police Clearances. We can also access this program to provide assistance to those who are interested in starting their own business.

  • Enterprise Support Program
    • Guidance and referrals to organisations that can assist clients in starting and running a small business.
  • Access to computers, fax, phone and copying for all employment and training issues.
    • We give assistance and basic training in the use of computers and access of internet websites.

Bentley Yarn Carriers

One of the Indigenous community groups we are involved with is the Bentley Yarn Carriers this is an indigenous group run and operated by the Indigenous community to develop and promote personal development and community involvement. The program is open to all community members not just the indigenous community.

Parent-Child Mother Goose Program®

Early Years Development

  • For parents with younger children not yet at school we support and run an Early Years program called Parent-Child Mother Goose®. This program originated in Canada and teaches 0-4 year olds language and social skills through the use of stories, rhymes and songs. Between the parent and child it focuses on the concept of "cuddle…communicate…connect".
    • Administration and development of the Mother Goose Program® in WA
    • Deliver and support teacher training within WA
    • Run various workshops around South East Metro region
    • Manage and support a resource library available to all P-CMG network members
    • Maintain a network organisation including regular newsletters
